Abstract

The study examined climate change with emphasis on migration and adaptation in pos-subsidy era in Nigeria with emphasis on Nigeria. The main aim of the study was to focus on how the removal of fossil fuel subsidies have aggravated negative impact of climate change. The specific objectives included an analysis of fuel study and its consequences on climate change and adopted the Adaptive Capacity theory propounded by Ian Burton (1992), as its theoretical framework and applied the desktop method of data collection. The study found that while the removal of subsidies had disrupted energy affordability, it encouraged a shift towards cleaner energy sources, thereby contributing to the mitigation efforts. It further found that the adaptation strategies in Nigeria and several other developing economies remain underfunded thereby limiting their capacity to build disaster resilience. The results emphasized the need for comprehensive policy framework that would integrate energy reforms with climate adaptation and resilience measures. It recommended that governments at all levels should increase the funding of programs and projects to support vulnerable communities for sustainable energy and disaster resilience in post subsidy era.
