Sola Elijah Olorunda
Abstract
This study examines the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on socio-economic activities in southwest Nigeria. The study adopts a phenomenology design and primary data collection instruments consisting of interviews and non-participant observation. This paper argues that covid-19 has affected Nigerian citizens adversely with the impact, high.in southwest Nigeria. While small and medium scale enterprises complain of increase in the prices of goods as a result of inflation with its attendant low patronage from the citizens, the education sector was also affected due to lack of provision of digitalization; just as religious groups were also affected because of lockdown as many of them lack the facilities for online services. It is recommended that government should provide soft loans for the citizen, especially small and medium scale enterprises. Also, the government should mitigate the negative impacts of COVID-19 on education by providing solar-powered educational devices, pre-loaded with offline academic resources to students in disadvantaged and vulnerable communities, such as the tablets used in the Sun Books project.
