IMPLICATIONS OF THE SHIFTING FACES OF TERRORISM ON NIGERIA’S SECURITY AND GLOBAL RELATIONS

Abstract
International relations are fostered through nation-states’ unity and affinity for socioeconomic developments and security activities. Such linkages produce sustained robust development for each actor. Terrorists’ activities in and from various countries across the globe can, and do also causes negative effect on individuals, national and international security, economic potency and relations. Exploring available secondary data, revealed that terrorist activities in Nigeria is dynamic, involving the change of names, recruitment means, mission, connections, modus operandi and locations. These have impacts and implications on the economy, security operatives and on the image of the country in its global socioeconomic and political relations. The study concluded that such dynamism posed new challenges on the security agencies, economy and Nigeria’s global image. Recommendations include strategic education to differentiate between religion and terrorism, security operatives’ capabilities and morale to be boosted, and Nigeria to liaise with other countries against terrorism for positive security, socioeconomic development and global relations.
