Abstract

Democracy has become the choice of government to many states today because of its inclusive opportunities, amongst others. But the level of participation is a virtue that cannot be discountenanced as it strongly underscores the relevance of the principle of majority to a democratic regime. In Nigeria, youth participation is witnessing a progressive trend, making investigation of its impact on the level of electorates participation germane using Amuwo-Odofin local government in Lagos state as the focus as objective of this study. The research adopts a descriptive survey design to undertake the study, analysing the 360 retrieved out of 400 hundred administered questionnaires with simple percentages and found that the level of youth participation is bourgeoning with minimal hindrances and marginalisation in the political affairs of the local government. Therefore, the study recommends that an extensive political enlightenment by political parties, INEC, and media should be undertaken to sustain and consolidate youth participation in the Amuwo-Odofin local government of Lagos state, amongst others.
