IMPACT OF URBAN RUNOFF ON THE HEAVY CONCENTRATION OF METALS IN THE EPIE CREEK, NIGER DELTA, NIGERIA

Abstract

Water samples were collected during the wet and dry seasons from the Epie Creek for the purposes of providing the non – existent data on the heavy metals concentration of the Epie Creek. All samples were analysed for their pH, Electrical conductivity and heavy metals by standard methods. Results showed that mean pH was lower during the dry season, while mean heavy metals were lower during the wet season. Higher heavy metals during the dry season were attributed to lower pH, which enhanced mobilisation and leaching of heavy metals into the Epie Creek. It was concluded that urban runoff did not influenced the heavy metals concentration of the Epie Creek.
